Milan

Milano is one of the most importantcities of Italy located in the north of the country. It is thecapital city of the region Lombardia and with more than 1,3 millioninhabitants it is the second most populated city of Italy while, considering the whole urban area it is the first of the list,counting more than 7 million people.

Milan was probably founded by anautoctone population around the year 600 b.C. Later the city wasdominated by the Roman empire who gave it the name Mediolanum which probably meant the land in the middle of the plain.

Today Milan is the most importantindustrial and commercial area of Italy, with also a greatinternational importance, especcially concerning with serviceindustry, fashon, publishing and manufacturing industries. It's themain Italian financial center and hosts the italian stock exchangenamed “Borsa Valori” which is one of th4e most important inEurope.

Though Milan is a mediterranean city,it has a semi-continental climate with cold winters and humid andvery warm summers, not windy but rainy, while winters are lessrainy.
Visiting Milan gives you the opportunity to enjoy someinteresting spots. The main one is definitely

the Cathedral that became the mainsymbol of the city. Its building has a gothic style and fully coveredwith a prestigeous marble. The top of the main pinacle is decoratedby a statue of a Madonna made of copper, built in 1774 and 4 metreshigh.

Another interesting site to visit isthe Monumental Cemetery designed by the architect Carlo Maciachinibetween 1863 and 1866.

Milan is also full of some of the mostprestigeous theatres of the world, such as the Scala that can containup to 2200 people including a 678 pieces orchestra.

More evidences of the gratness of Milanare around the city, for example the Peace Arch that Napoleon askedto built and is oriented toward Paris.
