Madrid lies now in the place where once was built an Arabic fortress named Magerit and got a growing demographic importance after it became the capital of Spain,especially for being a goal of immigrates both from foreign countries and from Spain itself
Madrid is today also a goal for many visitors that want to enjoy the life of the city and all the attractions it offers to the tourists. In Madrid there are some of the most important museums of Spain, the Prado museum located along a nice boulevard where you can enjoy a walk. An other important museum is the one dedicated to the queen Sofia where among the pictures you can find the legendary Guernica,one of the most famous Picasso’s work that describes the bombing against the town of Guernica in1937.
A nice place to visit is the Royal palace, home of the royal family with a lovely garden on its side good for a walk or just for sitting on a bench and enjoy the view of the palace. Walking from the Royal palace to the centre we get to the Plaza Mayor one of the main squares of Madrid surrounded by arcades. In this square we find the Casa de la Panaderia a palace with a whole face fresco painted.
Continuing our walk through the city we get to the Puerta del sol, a square in the heart of the city where every new year’s eve all the people from Madrid join together to celebrate the new year, in this square there is the starting point for all the distances measured in Spain.
On sunny days, which are abundant especially in spring and summer, nobody should miss the chance to visit the Retiro Park and spent at least a couple of hours in there. For those who love sailing there is also the chance to rent a little boat and have a relaxing sailing on the little lake inside the park.
For tourists one of the best aspects of Madridis that it is easy to be reached by plane. Its airport Barajas islinked very well to the city through the underground which has 12 lines and it is one of the most developed of the world.
