London

London is the most important city of England and the United kingdom and it is its capital city.It is located in the south of the Island with about 7,5 milion inhabitants on 1.577,3 sq. km . London's people has a very high number of different nationalities with more than 300 languages spoken.
Though its origin was Celtic the name of London comes from the Latin Londinium, the name given by the Romans that stayed in the City until the fifth century. The Roman empire used London as a commercial port taking advantage of the river Thames and the nearness to the sea.
During the medieval era London became important also for institutional reasons, in fact since then all the British kings are crowned in the Westminster Abbey in London.
Dispite of the blaze in 1666 that destroyed much of the city, London saw a great growing period during the XVIII and XIX century becoming the biggest city of the world. A slack of the growth was accused during the last century because of the two world wars that caused an important number of deaths and destroyed buildings. Until 1997 London suffered the IRA attacks by the Irish terrorists and the recent attack in 2005 by a group of Islamic terrorists.
The City of London lies around the river Thames that, thanks to its nearness to the sea, was one of the most important ports of the world. The weather of London is temperate, with not too worm summers and never too cold winters, snow is not usual.
The most famous tourist attractions are in the centre of the City where people can visit many pubs, cinemas, theatres, restaurants, shops. Among the most important buildings we find Buckingham Palace, home of the royal family where every day at midday people can enjoy the guard change. Close to Buckingham Palace Hyde park, the biggest green area of London together with Regent's park. More tourist attractions are the London Bridge and London Tower that hosts the Crown Jewels.
For those who love shopping London offers many markets such as Camden, Portobello road, and Covent garden. While people who love culture places should have a look at the Tate museum, the Wax Museum, or the permanent exhibition of Dali at South Bank. But don't be scared, though London is very big, it has a very efficient transport system, the underground is one of the most important of the world and works since 1863, while if you want to travel overground you can take a bus or a black Cab, the typical black taxi, symbol of the urban London.
