Dubai, often called Dubay City, is the main city of the state called Dubai that belongs to the Emirates. This city is located between Sharja and Abu Dhabi facing the Gulf.
With more than 2 million inhabitants, Dubai city has only 20% of local people, in fact the majority of residents come from the Indian continent. This because of the recent tourism industry growth that created thousands jobs.
In the past Dubai was known because of its port and its intense commercial activity with India and the far east. Differently from the neighbour countries Dubai is not rich of oil so it specialized in tourism and technology.
The city’s architecture is a mix of traditional and modern styles. The river that divides the old quarters from the newer can be sailed and on it you can have tourist trips to discover new exciting places.
The old city Bastakiya hosts the Dubai museum which is located in the al-Fahidi fortress, built at the end of 1700 to protect the city. The halls of this beautiful museum are witnesses of the life and habits of local people along the history.
Bastakiya is the most characteristic area of the city thanks to its architecture and traditional buildings. Among the most important holy places there is the Jumeirah, one of the few mosque open to non-Muslim people.
In the quarter Deira there is the famous Suq, a market that hosts merchants from all over the world.
Among the tourist places we mention the zoo where you can find several species of animals from the arabic peninsula.
The city is a real temple of shopping, in fact you will find a certain number of shops and markets where you can buy all you can imagine.
Dubai is also known for its sport activities, on its lovely beaches and in some big hotel chains.
